ZOTRIM™ HERBAL WEIGHT LOSS AID
Zotrim™ is the unique herbal product which research shows could really help weight loss. Zotrim tablets contain the herbal extracts Yerba Mate, Guarana and Damiana
Now manage your weight your way: The primary cause of being overweight is eating more than your body needs. Zotrim™ is designed to help you reduce how much you eat. Zotrim™ offers a way to help lose weight gradually and healthily, as part of a calorie-controlled diet and exercise programme. Having achieved a healthy weight, Zotrim™ can help you maintain lasting results.
How Zotrim™ works: A study using ultrasound showed that the Zotrim™ formulation slowed the rate of stomach emptying. It is thought that, as the food stays in the stomach longer, you feel full faster and remain feeling full for longer. In this way, Zotrim™ can help reduce overall food intake from meals and snacks. ** Journal of Human Nutrition and Dietetics, 14(3), 243-250, June 2001.
How long to take Zotrim™ A healthy rate of weight loss is between 1 and 2 lbs (half to one kilo) per week. Having set your target weight and started your Zotrim™ programme, it could take you 1-3 months or longer to get to your target.
ZOTRIM – THE INGREDIENTS
YERBA MATE Is a great anti-oxidant, looks after the nervous system, can help in delaying the aging process, combats fatigue, stimulates the mind, helps to reduce stress and offers vitamins A,C,E,B1,B2 and B complex, riboflavin, vitamin C complex, magnesium, calcium, iron, potassium and manganese. ‘One group of investigators from the Pasteur Institute and the Paris Scientific Society concluded that Yerba Mate contains practically all of the vitamins necessary to sustain life. They focused especially on patothenic acid, remarking that it is rare to find a plant with so much of this significant and vital nutrient. It is indeed difficult to find a plant in any area of the world equal to mate’ in nutritional value’.
DAMIANA Is an excellent strengthening remedy for the nervous system. It also has been known to have benefits for improving sexual function and has been used as a ‘natural’ anti-depressant.
GUARANA Often used by athletes for it’s energizing effect. Is known to stimulate the central nervous system, increases metabolism, and has a mild diuretic effect.

Summary of completed studies
Zotrim is a unique and patented herbal formulation which has excellent evidence of efficacy for weight-loss and a known mode of action. This sets it apart from all other non-prescription weight-loss products. Scientific and consumer studies provide the following evidence on Zotrim:
- Effective at weight-loss even without diet modification or dietary advice (Study 1 & 3)
- Effective at maintaining weight lost over twelve month period (Study 2)
- Slows the rate of gastric emptying, an important factor in eating control (Study 4)
- Decreases the time to fullness and hence the amount eaten during meals (Study 3 & 5) Reduces the tendency to snack (Study 3 & 6)
Completed studies on Zotrim include:
1. Placebo-controlled study on weight-loss The effect of the Zotrim herbal preparation on weight-loss over 45 days was investigated in a study undertaken with 47 overweight subjects aged 20 – 60. They were allocated either capsules of the Zotrim herbal preparation* or placebo capsules containing lactose and were instructed to take three capsules with a large glass of water before their main meals.
- The subjects were not on a diet and were given no dietary advice. The subjects receiving the Zotrim herbal combination lost an average of 5.1 kilogram (11.3 pounds) compared with 0.3 kilogram (0.7 pounds) for those receiving placebo.
Investigator: Dr Torben Andersen, Lyngby, DenmarkPublished: Journal of Human Nutrition and Dietetics 14, 243-250 (2001)
2. Effect on weight maintenance Keeping off weight lost is known to be difficult. A follow-on study was therefore undertaken to explore the success of the Zotrim herbal preparation in maintaining weight loss. Twenty two of the twenty-four subjects who had taken Zotrim herbal preparation in the above study were provided with the preparation for a further twelve months. They were weighed monthly and instructed to take Zotrim as needed.
- At the start of the period average weight was 73 kilogram (161 pounds) and at the end of the twelve period it was 72.5 kilogram (160 pounds)
Investigator: Dr Torben Andersen, Lyngby, DenmarkPublished: Journal of Human Nutrition and Dietetics 14, 243-250 (2001) 3. Consumer study on weight loss and eating behavior Fifty UK adult consumers wishing to lose weight were provided with Zotrim tablets* and instructed to take two Zotrim tablets with a glass of water three times a day before their main meals. No advice on diet was given. Questionnaires were completed after 7, 14 and 28 days.
- Average weight-loss was 2.5 kilogram (5.5 pounds) in 28 days
- Over half reported they had eaten less than usual at meals
- Two thirds reported they had snacked less than usual between meals
Investigator: Taylor Nelson Sofres (unpublished)
4. Gastric emptying rate study A gastric emptying study was undertaken since stomach fullness and gastric emptying rate are known to be closely connected to eating control mechanisms. This was investigated in seven previously fasted subjects in a placebo controlled study in which the subjects took three capsules of Zotrim herbal preparation or three placebo capsules of lactose with 20ml apple juice followed 15 minutes later by 400 ml apple juice. Gastric volume was assessed by ultrasound measurement every 10 minutes and the time to empty the stomach measured.
- Average gastric emptying time was 58 minutes when subjects took Zotrim herbal preparation compared with 38 minutes when the same subjects took placebo
Investigator: Dr Jan Fogh, Charlottenlund, DenmarkPublished: Journal of Human Nutrition and Dietetics 14, 243-250 (2001)
5. Time to fullness study The time to perceived gastric fullness was investigated with 20 subjects taking two capsules of Zotrim herbal preparation or two placebo capsules of lactose. Subjects were instructed to take capsules with a glass of water 10 – 15 minutes before meals. The subjects recorded time to perceived gastric fullness during each meal and the times for three daily meals were combined.
- Average combined time to gastric fullness over three meals was 35 minutes when subjects took Zotrim herbal preparation compared with 61 minutes when they took placebo.
Investigator: Dr Torben Andersen, Lyngby, DenmarkPublished: 3rd Health and Nutrition Conference, London, Nov 2002
6. Effect of TV viewing and Zotrim on snacking TV viewing has been identified as a factor which may influence eating behaviour and overweight. The effect of TV viewing and Zotrim on energy intake from snack foods was explored in eleven healthy adults. Subjects took either two Zotrim tablets or two placebo tablets with a drink in the morning and before lunch. Two hours after lunch the subjects were exposed either to a TV video or to blank screen with the option of reading/studying and had unlimited access to snack foods (crisps, chocolate, sweets and soft drink). Total energy intake during lunch and snacking was measured.
- Energy intake was significantly higher when subjects watched TV compared to not viewing Energy intake when watching TV was reduced when subjects took took Zotrim compared to placebo
Investigators: G Baker and A.R Leeds, Dept of Nutrition and Dietetics, Kings College LondonPublished: 3rd Health and Nutrition Conference, London, Nov 2002
7. Effect of Zotrim on weight loss and reduction in waist circumference In a consumer intervention 61 overweight females took Zotrim for 4 weeks. Hunger and eating patterns were monitored by questionnaire. Both weight loss and waist measurement were taken at start, two weeks and four weeks. Waist measurement was made since this is an independent determinant of chronic disease risk.
- Average weight loss of 1.8kg (4 pounds) in four weeks
- Average waist reduction of 4.3 cm (almost 2 inches) in four weeks
- Subjects felt less hungry between meals and fuller after meals
- Changes with Zotrim over four weeks compared favourably with longer-term weight management therapies.
Investigators: CHS Ruxton, F Hinton and CEL Evans Published: Highlights presented at British Dietetic Association Conference, Cardiff, June 2005. Full study accepted for publication in Nutrition & Food Science, October 2005Additional publications, additional evidence:
8. Review of key ingredients in over-the-counter weight loss aids Study identified the key ingredients in weight loss preparation sold in the UK and reviewed the data available in support of their efficacy.
- Zotrim formulation identified as the only one with demonstrated clinically and statistically significant effect on weight lose
Investigators: CHS Ruxton and EJ GardnerPublished: British Food Journal, 107(2), April 2005
9. Additional evidence on metabolic rate and energy boost. Zotrim contains extracts of guarana and yerba mate both of which have traditional use in stimulant drinks.
Each tablet of Zotrim contains 12.5 milligrams of natural caffeine provided by the herb extracts.
Caffeine is well known in causing a mild increase in metabolic rate which can promote thermogenesis and impact favourably on weight-loss.
Dulloo et al American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 1989; 49, 44-50
There is additional evidence that guarana seed extracts provide an energy boost and stimulating effect greater than that expected from its caffeine content alone. Studies in rats have demonstrated that guarana increased physical activity, increased physical endurance under stress and increased memory. Zotrim Success Stories Kerrilyn Earl
In August 2004, office administrator Kerrilyn considered herself overweight. Facing an uphill battle that wasn’t working, she had tried and tested various means of weight loss with no avail, finally turning to Zotrim. As directed, Kerrilyn started out taking two Zotrim tablets three times a day. She moved up progressively to two in the morning and three before lunch and dinner, no more than 20 minutes before meals. Not professing to be a miracle cure, Kerrilyn understood that Zotrim worked best when combined with a healthy lifestyle. Working in an office, she knew she wasn’t getting enough exercise and was already a regular at the gym – attending around five times a week. Being disappointed with weight loss aids before, Kerrilyn had no expectations when trying Zotrim, but found it to be outstanding. In Zotrim, she had finally found a product that worked for her at achieving results with no noticeable side effects.
AFTER Impressed not to have any adverse affects from taking Zotrim, particularly no raised heartbeats or sleeping problems which had been associated with other weight loss aids. “I felt exactly the same on Zotrim, just not having the need to eat as much. I was facing an uphill battle but now Zotrim has controlled my eating and weight and at 20 kilos lighter it feels sensational.” By eight months of taking Zotrim, Kerrilyn had met all her weight loss goals. Originally a size 14-16, she is now a stable 8-10. After reaching her target, Kerrilyn stopped taking Zotrim, but has recently returned to the weight loss aid to help maintain her new size and would encourage others to try Zotrim.
One year later, Kerrilyn is 20 kilos lighter and has lost four dress sizes. When asked the best thing about Zotrim, Kerrilyn quickly replies, “results”. And the worst? “That I didn’t hear of it earlier!”

Frequently Asked Questions
Q. How much weight could I be expected to lose whilst on ZOTRIM™? A. As a general rule, it follows that the more overweight you are the more you can expect to lose in a determined weight management programme. What is also true is that the nearer you are to a normal, healthy weight, the harder it is to lose those last few pounds. From our experience there is quite a wide spectrum in both the amount and the rate of weight loss reflecting the inherent differences between individuals and their circumstances. However, what we know is that in the published clinical trial featuring the Zotrim™ formulation and overweight people, the average weight loss was 11 lbs over six weeks. A healthy rate of weight loss is between one and two pounds in a week and with Zotrim™, it is common to start observing weight loss from the second week onwards.
Q. How does ZOTRIM™ work? A. If you are overweight through overeating, Zotrim™ is designed to help you reduce food intake. Zotrim™ could work to help you feel full more quickly and for longer. This will help you to eat less during meals and avoid in-between meal snacks.
Q. Can I take ZOTRIM™ with alcohol? A. As alcohol is a source of calories, we advise consumers to limit their intake of alcohol whilst on the Zotrim™ weight management programme. There is no harm, however, in consuming alcohol whilst taking Zotrim™, bearing in mind that excessive alcohol intake could contribute to additional weight gain.
Q. How long can I take ZOTRIM™? A. A healthy rate of weight loss is between 1 and 2 lbs (half to one kilo) per week. Having set your target weight and started your Zotrim™, it could take you 1 - 2 months or longer to get to your target. Having reached it, you may find by then that you have changed your eating habits. However, we recommend you keep some Zotrim™ tablets in reserve - in case. If you notice you have begun to put on weight again, for example at a busy social time, you can start taking Zotrim™ again until you feel you are back in control.
QHow long before my meal should I take ZOTRIM™? A. We recommend that you start with 2 tablets before meals in the first week and increase to 3 tablets from the second week onwards. Maximum 9 tablets daily. It is a good idea to take the tablets about 20 minutes before eating your meal but taking the tablets on the odd occasion as you start your meal will not have any adverse effects.
Q. What will happen if I miss a day, or a dose or two within a day? A. If you miss one or two doses, due to forgetfulness or some such thing, the Zotrim™ herbal tablets might not be as effective, so it is best to make sure that you take the recommended dose every day whilst on the course of Zotrim™ (one or two month's supply)
Q. What advice can you give me when I am taking my ZOTRIM™? A. Exercise is an important part of any health programme and you should always ensure that the programme you choose is appropriate for your age, weight and state of health. There are a number of ways in which you can increase your energy consumption just by making small adjustments in your everyday life such as using the stairs rather than the lift, walking to the shops rather than taking the car, going for a walk after lunch. Make time during your day if you can to include some extra physical activity such as swimming or cycling.
Q. Are there any side-effects or contra-indications when taking ZOTRIM™? A. Zotrim™ is a herbal food supplement with a very good safety record. In the published Zotrim™ trial, no side effects were reported. From our experience, very occasionally, people have complained of feeling nauseous when starting Zotrim™. One of the three components of Zotrim™ is guarana which contains a little caffeine. So Zotrim™ is contraindicated if you are caffeine sensitive. A daily dose of caffeine is equivalent to about one cup of coffee. In general, we advise that if people have health problems, they should consult their doctor before starting on Zotrim™, in common with anyone commencing a weight reduction program. Because Zotrim™ (according to the published trial) acts by reducing stomach emptying time, it follows that the advice to consult your doctor particularly applies if you have any kind of gastro-intestinal problem.
Q. Can I take ZOTRIM™ whilst I am taking Thyroxin? A. There is no reason that you cannot take Zotrim™ whilst taking Thyroxin, but we do advise all our customers who are on some form of medication to first consult with their doctor before starting the one month course of Zotrim.
Q. Can I take ZOTRIM™ if I am pregnant or breastfeeding? A. Our advice is the same for anyone who is starting on a slimming diet. You should consult your doctor before starting.
Q. Will ZOTRIM™ interfere with the oral contraceptive? A. No - ZOTRIM™ is a food supplement, not a medicine. |
