Common household beverages (like juices, sports and soft drinks) may contain large amounts of sugar and frequently do not contain the electrolytes kids need to rehydrate quickly.
What is dehydration?
Children that have diarrhoea or have been vomiting may have lost increased amounts of fluid and electrolytes from the body. In children this fluid loss can be excessive and frequently can lead to a more serious condition called dehydration. Dehydration due to vomiting and diarrhoea can be dangerous in babies, young children under 5 years old and the elderly.
